Job summary

St John’s C of E Primary School in Midsomer Norton is seeking a General Catering Assistant to help prepare sandwiches, salads and simple cooked items, set up dining areas, and deliver meals when required. The role offers part-time hours during term time with a salary in the Grade 1 scale and a modest annual salary.

The successful candidate will be physically fit, a strong team player with good communication skills, and willing to undertake relevant training.

Qualifications

• Physical fitness for bending, lifting, pushing trolleys, and loading/unloading heavy delivery boxes.
• Ability to operate kitchen machinery safely (training provided).
• Strong team player with good communication skills and a friendly approach to staff and pupils.
• Willingness to undertake relevant training and participate in professional development.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparing sandwiches, baguettes, salads, pre-mixes, and simple cooked items using standard industry techniques and equipment.
• Set up dining areas, manage queue flow, clear trays, wipe tables, and operate till systems for cashless catering and meal authorizations.
• Maintain high standards of food safety by washing crockery, utensils, and machinery, conducting daily temperature checks, and following Health & Safety and COSHH guidelines.
• Load pre-prepared meals into the school catering vehicle and deliver them to local schools when required.
