Job summary

Amey is seeking a permanent General Building Maintenance Operative for HMP Manchester, 1 Southall Street, Manchester M60 9AH. The base salary is £28,792 per year, with a 39-hour week and a 1 in 4 weekend rota plus an on-call element.

The role supports facilities management across prisons and requires working on-site. The team delivers safe, clean and efficient prison environments, contributing to critical services across the MoJ account in England and Wales.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site.
• Provide professional assistance service including contractor escorting when required.
• Complete DIY tasks such as decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture and repairs.
• Check appliances and fittings; report defects to Team Leader.
• General housekeeping and grounds maintenance as needed.
• Perform other FM duties as directed by the team manager.

Summary

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent General Building Operative in HMP Manchester, 1 Southall Street, Manchester M60 9AH.

The base salary is £28,792.

The standard hours of work are 39 per week, Monday to Thursday 08:00 - 17:00; Friday to Sunday 08:00 - 16:00, and there will be a need to work 1 in 4 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary). You will also be required to be part of an on call rota.

What you will do:

• To work in a team to provide general maintenance tasks and support tradespeople on site.
• Provide a professional assistance service to those requesting support including contractor escorting duties when required.
• Complete tasks associated with DIY such as decorating, hanging notice boards, building furniture, repair of items around the prison.
• Checking appliances, fittings and general environment are in good working order and all defects reported to Team Leader.
• General good housekeeping, including litter picking and landscaping around the grounds if required.
• All other FM duties as required directed by team manager.
