Job summary

Amey are recruiting a General Building Maintenance Engineer for the Haverigg site. The role is permanent, based at HMP Haverigg, with a base salary of £28,792–£31,792 and 39 hours weekly. A 1-in-3 weekend rota attracts a 15% basic salary allowance.

You will work on facilities management to support prisons across England and Wales. Key duties include CCTV/alarm tasks, fire extinguisher maintenance, fire door upkeep, and regular risk-based safety testing in a secure environment.

Responsibilities

• Undertake general tasks on CCTV and alarm systems.
• Carry out monthly checks of fire protection equipment.
• Perform quarterly RCD testing.
• Check Misting Units.
• Undertake fire door maintenance activities.
• Conduct water temperature testing per risk assessment.
• Carry out emergency lighting checks monthly/annually.
• Test smoke vents and other safety systems.
• Other duties commensurate with the role.

Title: General Building Maintenance Engineer

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a permanent General Building Engineer in HMP Haverigg, North Lane, Millom, LA18 4NA.

The base salary is £28,792 - £31,792.

The standard hours of work are 39 per week, Monday to Thursday 08:00 – 17:00; Friday to Sunday 08:00 - 16:00, and there will be a need to work 1 in 3 weekends, but this would be on a rota basis (and with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary).

What You Will Do

• Undertake general tasks associated with security systems such as CCTV and alarm systems
• Carry out monthly checks and tests of fire extinguisher equipment, with regular checks on fire hydrants and fire hoses
• Complete RCD testing on a quarterly basis
• Carry out checks on Misting Units
• Undertake fire door maintenance activities
• Conduct flushing and tap temperature tests as required by the water risk assessment
• Undertake monthly and annual emergency lighting checks
• Check and test smoke vents as required
• Any other duties commensurate with the role
