Job summary

Notting Hill Genesis is seeking a General Assistant in Romford to support communal areas and create a safe, welcoming environment for residents. The role is part-time (15 hours/week) Monday to Friday, 9:00am–12:00pm, supporting housing services and ensuring smooth day-to-day operation.

You will maintain cleanliness, assist with meals where needed, and work with colleagues to handle emergencies while prioritising residents' wellbeing and safety.

Qualifications

  • Organise and prioritise workload to meet standards.
  • Work respectfully and collaboratively with residents and colleagues.
  • Use your own initiative to complete tasks.
  • Good spoken and written English communication.
  • Basic IT skills including Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

  • Clean communal areas to the required standard.
  • Support a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for residents.
  • Be aware of residents' wellbeing and safety; report concerns promptly.
  • Respond professionally to resident concerns and escalate issues per policy.
  • Follow health and safety procedures with cleaning equipment and materials.
  • Report health and safety issues relating to building condition.
  • Assist catering teams with cleaning kitchens and dining areas where applicable.
  • Organise workload, maintain accurate records, use resources responsibly.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and respond to emergencies or incidents.

General Assistant

  • Contract type: Permanent, Part-time
  • Working Pattern: 15 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 12:00pm
What you'll do

As a General Assistant, you'll play an important role in helping us provide a clean, safe and welcoming environment for residents. Working as part of our Supported and Temporary Housing service, you'll support the wider team by maintaining communal areas to a high standard and helping to create a positive experience for residents, visitors and partner organisations.

You’ll be a visible presence within the service, taking pride in the environment and helping to ensure residents feel comfortable, respectful and supported in their home. Through your work, you’ll contribute to the smooth day-to-day running of the service and help create communities where people can thrive.

How you'll do it
  • Clean communal areas including lounges, hallways, staircases, lifts, communal toilets and bathrooms to the required standard.
  • Support colleagues in maintaining a welcoming, safe and supportive environment for residents.
  • Be aware of residents' wellbeing and safety, reporting concerns promptly and appropriately.
  • Respond professionally to resident concerns and escalating issues in line with policies and procedures.
  • Follow health and safety procedures, including the safe use of cleaning equipment and materials.
  • Report health and safety issues and concerns relating to the condition of the building.
  • Where applicable, support catering teams by helping to maintain clean kitchens and dining areas and assisting with meal service arrangements.
  • Organise your workload effectively, maintain accurate records where required and use resources responsibly.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and contribute to a positive response during emergencies or service incidents
