British Water (BW) is a dynamic and varied membership organisation of companies and stakeholders covering all sectors of the water and wastewater industry.

We represent the interests of UK water and wastewater supply chain companies together with wider stakeholders across the sector, through our events and UK, Technical and International forums, connecting them to contacts to raise their profile, grow their business and promote best practice. Our Water Industry Forum provides challenge-led, independent thought leadership, to tackle the challenges facing the sector.

Main Purpose of Job:

The purpose of the role is to enable members to gain access to BW’s range of services and events to ensure they are able to gain maximum value from their membership.

The General Administrator is responsible for assisting the Operations & Membership Manager undertaking the duties of the Membership Services Assistant whilst they are on maternity leave and then support the work of the UK, International and Technical Forums.

The role includes answering membership enquiries, processing membership applications, issuing membership certificates, chasing outstanding subscriptions and building member engagement. The Assistant will also help with the delivery and development of the ‘membership journey plan’, the implementation of the member retention and recruitment plan and assist with member cancellations.

The Administrator will also help answer enquiries related to event bookings and provide support with event administration, therefore a confident telephone manner and excellent communication skills (verbal and written) are required.

Reporting to:

The Operations & Membership Manager.

Membership Responsibilities include:

  1. Answering membership enquiries including those related to the application process and registering for BW meetings.
  2. Processing membership applications to include issuing membership certificates and new member ‘welcome packs’.
  3. Assisting with the update of member profiles and member cancellation.
  4. Responsible for updating the CRM/CMS platform to ensure member profiles and expiry dates are kept up to date. This will include a regular database cleanse in line with GDPR requirements.
  5. Utilising the new CRM/CMS platform to optimise its use for members and BW colleagues. (Full training will be provided).
  6. Responsible for monitoring the info@britishwater.co.uk & membership@ email address, responding to enquiries and passing on relevant enquiries to colleagues for response.
  7. Assist with membership invoicing and credit control ensuring Master contacts are updated and correct.
  8. Assisting in the delivery, development and monitoring of the ‘membership journey strategy’ including the membership retention strategy.
  9. Join and help lead membership meetings to advise potential companies of the benefits of joining BW or remaining in membership.
  10. Helping to build member engagement.
  11. Assisting with issuing and analysing member surveys.
  12. Helping to ensure the BW website is kept up to date, as and when required, on membership information.

UK, Technical & International Forum Responsibilities include:

  1. Answering membership enquiries including those related to the forums.
  2. Assisting with the update of member profiles and member cancellation.
  3. Responsible for updating the CRM/CMS platform to ensure member profiles and expiry dates are kept up to date. This will include a regular database cleanse in line with GDPR requirements.
  4. Utilising the new CRM/CMS platform to optimise its use for members and BW colleagues. (Full training will be provided).

Other duties to include:

  1. In conjunction with all staff, supporting the implementation of the BW strategy, plans and programme development for the UK, International and Technical Forums and work of the Water Industry Forum to meet agreed organisational performance objectives within established budget limits and timescales.
  2. Along with all staff, help ensure activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for health and safety, legal stipulation and the general duty of care towards all and every person reasonably associated with BW’s activities.
  3. Undertake other duties reasonably consistent with this brief for expanding and developing the role and standing of BW which may include:
  1. Assisting BW employees with duties in times of need.
  2. Assisting BW employees with events as agreed with your line manager.

REQUIRED SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Skills & Knowledge

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively - verbally and in writing (English).
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines and meeting them successfully.
  • Ability to prioritise, cope with pressure, multi-task, demonstrate flexibility.
  • Interested in the water and environment sector.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Must have a minimum of 1 year’s previous office administrative experience.
  • Must have a confident and professional telephone manner.
  • Experienced in the use of MS Office, particularly Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Experienced in using various digital and communications platforms (Teams, ZOOM).
  • Experience with CRM/CMS systems would be desirable. Full training will however be provided.

Candidates must be:

  • Able to work from home in the UK full-time.
  • Able to travel to UK based meetings as and when necessary.

This is a full-time (35 hours), permanent position.

Salary starts at £25,000.
