Job summary

Mitie Group plc. is seeking a reliable Gate House Security Officer to join our team in Bristol. The role involves controlling access, monitoring vehicle movements, conducting searches, and maintaining a visible security presence on a Monday to Friday 8.5-hour shift.

You must hold a valid SIA licence (Guarding/ Door Supervision or equivalent), have UK residency for the last five years, and be eligible for UK Security Clearance (SC). Driving licence is not required.

Responsibilities

Job description

We are seeking a professional and reliable Gate House Security Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment by controlling access to site, monitoring vehicle movements, conducting security searches, and acting as a visible security presence. This is a weekday-only position working Monday to Friday on 8.5-hour day shifts. Applicants do not need to hold a British passport but must have lived continuously in the UK for the previous five years and be eligible to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC). A driving licence is not required for this role. Main Duties Security Operations

• Control access to the site for employees, visitors, contractors, and deliveries.
• Verify identification, passes, and authorisation before permitting entry.
• Conduct vehicle searches in accordance with site procedures.
• Enforce site parking regulations and manage car park security issues.
• Act as a highly visible security presence to deter unauthorised activity and criminal behaviour.
• Complete accurate records, logs, and incident reports.
• Respond appropriately to security incidents and respond appropriately.
• Liaise with site management, emergency services, and other stakeholders when required.

Security Awareness

• Utilise SCaN (See, Check and Notify) principles to identify suspicious behaviour and security risks.
• Maintain awareness of potential threats and report concerns promptly.
• Follow all site Assignment Instructions and security procedures.

Health & Safety

• Monitor the site for Health & Safety hazards and unsafe practices.
• Report hazards, near misses, and incidents promptly.
• Support the promotion of a safe working environment for all staff, visitors, and contractors.
• Follow all company and client Health & Safety policies and procedures.

Training & Compliance

• Complete all mandatory security, compliance, and site-specific training.
• Maintain and renew all relevant licences and certifications.
• Participate in ongoing professional development and refresher training.
• Ensure compliance with all company policies, industry regulations, and client requirements. Valid SIA Security Guarding, Door Supervision, or equivalent frontline licence.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate report-writing skills.
• Eligibility to obtain UK Security Clearance (SC).
• Continuous UK residency for the previous five years.

Desirable Requirements

• Previous experience within commercial security.
• Experience working within a secure or regulated environment.
• Knowledge of access control systems and CCTV operations.
• SCaN (See, Check and Notify) awareness training.
