Job description

Gas Technical support Officer

Company: Capita plc Salary: £42,000 to £42,000 a year Hours: Full-time Location: W2 6BA Working pattern: On-site Job type: Permanent Posting date: 29 Oct 2026 Closing date: 28 Nov 2026

Use your gas industry expertise to make a real difference to public safety, industry standards and the reputation of Gas Safe Register. We are looking for an experienced gas professional to join the Gas Safe Register team as a Technical Support Officer. This is a home-working role and an excellent opportunity to move into a trusted technical advisory position where your knowledge, judgement and communication skills will help support registered businesses, stakeholders and members of the public.

In this role, you will provide clear, accurate and practical technical information on gas safety, associated building industries and ACS-related matters. You will play an important part in helping people understand their responsibilities, supporting compliance with relevant legislation and promoting safe standards across the gas industry. About Gas Safe Register Gas Safe Register is the official gas registration body for the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Jersey and Guernsey. By law, gas businesses and engineers must be registered to carry out gas work legally. The register helps protect the public from unsafe gas work by maintaining the official list of competent businesses and engineers, supporting inspections, investigating safety concerns and raising awareness of gas safety standards.

Capita delivers the Gas Safe Register service under a concession arrangement with the Health and Safety Executive and related authorities. Together, we help maintain gas safety standards and give consumers confidence that gas work is carried out safely, legally and professionally.

Why Join Us?

  • Use your technical gas experience in a role focused on advice, guidance and public protection.

  • Move into a varied support role where no two enquiries are the same.

  • Influence safety awareness by helping stakeholders, gas businesses and the public understand key requirements.

  • Contribute to technical publications, guidance and bulletins that support the wider industry.

  • Join a service with a clear purpose: helping improve and maintain gas safety standards across the UK.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Respond to telephone, written and email enquiries from stakeholders, registered businesses and the general public, providing clear and professional technical guidance.

  • Provide information and advice on gas safety, associated building industries and Nationally Accredited Certification Scheme for Individual Gas Fitting Operatives (ACS) matters.

  • Support other Gas Safe Register departments with accurate technical guidance to help ensure compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.

  • Research, write, review and edit technical articles, publications and bulletins, ensuring information is accurate, consistent and easy to understand.

  • Keep up to date with industry changes, technical standards and legislation so that advice remains current and reliable.

  • Provide cover and support across technical areas when required, helping maintain high service standards.

  • Promote Gas Safe Register positively across the gas industry, associated trades and the general public.

What We're Looking For

  • A minimum of eight years' experience working within the gas industry.

  • City & Guilds, NVQ or equivalent qualification in gas service engineering.

  • Appropriate ACS proof of competence.

  • Broad knowledge of the gas industry and related technical standards.

  • Excellent understanding of health and safety, Building Regulations and other relevant legislation.

  • Strong customer service skills, with the ability to explain technical information clearly and professionally.

  • Ability to gather information, research topics and use evidence to support effective decision making.

  • Strong prioritisation, organisation and time management skills, with the ability to work under pressure.

  • Good knowledge and confidence using computer-based systems.

What's in It for You?

  • A role where your experience is valued and used to support safer gas standards.

  • The flexibility of a home-working role, allowing you to use your technical expertise in a professional support environment.

  • The opportunity to step away from hands-on engineering while staying connected to the industry.

  • Varied technical work, including advisory support, research, publications and stakeholder engagement.

  • A professional environment where accuracy, knowledge and good judgement make a meaningful impact.

  • Career development opportunities across Capita, with support to build skills and progress your career.

  • £41,000 annual salary
