Job summary

SGN in Glasgow is recruiting Trainee Gas Engineers. No prior experience needed; you will receive full training and equipment to repair, replace and lay gas mains and services. You must hold a valid UK driving licence and be prepared to work a rota, including weekends and nights.

Salary starts at £29,327 per year and rises to £32,586 after probation. On successful completion of probation, and with standby and overtime opportunities, your earning potential increases.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; full training and equipment provided.
• You will learn on-site alongside experienced engineers.
• Valid UK driving licence is required.
• Based within a commutable distance from Glasgow.
• Be prepared to work on a rota, including weekends and nights.

Responsibilities

• Support engineers on site and learn daily during gas service and mains repair activities.
• Excavation, digging in public and private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes.
• Be part of essential works to keep gas supply running 24/7, standby and overtime when needed.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job to ensure the team has equipment.

We're looking for exceptional Trainee Gas Engineers, and here's the catch - we're not interested in your CV! Here's the catch - we're not interested in your CV! We want to uncover your values, skills, and potential abilities to enrich our team and promote diversity and inclusion.

You will be given all training and equipment to support our Engineers in repairing, replacing, and laying new gas mains and services. With no prior experience needed, we will provide everything to fully equip you with the tools and knowledge to keep our customers safe and warm.

• Support engineers on site and learning from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities
• Excavation, digging in the public & private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes so you will work in various outdoor environments safely and as part of a team
• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night - standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours
• You will maintain the SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring your team has all the equipment to do your job safely and efficiently

• Will be required to be clean shaven: As part of our commitment to the personal safety of our employees you will be required to be clean shaven, and pass a face fit test, to wear tight fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus. This is for personal protection to ensure you don't breathe in any harmful substances, whilst carrying out critical work within our communities.
• Holds a valid UK driver’s licence: A full, valid UK driver’s licence is essential for this role.
• Due to operational response times, you must be based within a commutable distance from the desired locations.
