Job summary

SGN in Glasgow is recruiting for a Trainee Gas Engineer Assistant. You will receive full training and equipment to support engineers in repairing, replacing, and laying new gas mains and services, with no prior experience required.

Based in Glasgow, you will work on site, learn daily from experienced engineers, and participate in standby and overtime to ensure safe gas supply. A valid UK driving licence is essential for this role.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; training provided.
• Must hold a valid UK driver’s licence.
• Clean shaven appearance and ability to pass a face fit test.

Responsibilities

• Assist on site with gas service and mains repair activities under supervision.
• Excavate and lay/repair gas pipes in outdoor environments as part of a team.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job.

You will be given all training and equipment to support our Engineers in repairing, replacing, and laying new gas mains and services. With no prior experience needed, we will provide everything to fully equip you with the tools and knowledge to keep our customers safe and warm.

How you'll support us on our mission to keep people safe and warm...

• Support engineers on site and learning from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities
• Excavation, digging in the public & private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes so you will work in various outdoor environments safely and as part of a team
• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night – standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours
• You will maintain the SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring your team has all the equipment to do your job safely and efficiently

• Will be required to be clean shaven: As part of our commitment to the personal safety of our employees you will be required to be clean shaven, and pass a face fit test, to wear tight fitting dust masks and breathing apparatus. This is for personal protection to ensure you don't breathe in any harmful substances, whilst carrying out critical work within our communities.
• Holds a valid UK driver's licence: A full, valid UK driver's licence is essential for this role.

Due to operational response times, you must be based within a commutable distance from the desired locations.
