Job summary

SGN in Dundee is seeking a Trainee Gas Engineer to begin an exciting career keeping people safe and warm. No CV is required; we will assess values, skills and potential during the selection process.

You will receive full training and equipment to support engineers in repairing, replacing, and laying new gas mains and services. You’ll work with a team across varied outdoor environments with safety as a priority.

Qualifications

• No prior experience required; full training provided.
• Must be able to work outdoors in various environments.
• Must hold a valid UK driver’s licence.
• Willingness to work nights/weekends per rota.

Responsibilities

• Support engineers on site and learn daily during gas service and mains repair activities.
• Excavation, digging in public & private highways, laying and repairing gas pipes in outdoor environments.
• Be part of essential works to keep gas supply running 24/7; standby and overtime may apply.
• Maintain SGN vans and tools before and after each job to ensure equipment readiness.

You will be given all training and equipment to support our Engineers in repairing, replacing, and laying new gas mains and services. With no prior experience needed, we will provide everything to fully equip you with the tools and knowledge to keep our customers safe and warm.

How you’ll support us on our mission to keep people safe and warm…

• Support engineers on site and learning from them daily during gas service and mains repair activities

• Being part of essential works to keep gas supply running to millions of people all year around and at any time day or night – standby and overtime opportunities apply for irregular hours
• You will maintain the SGN vans and tools before and after each job, ensuring your team has all the equipment to do your job safely and efficiently

This is for personal protection to ensure you don’t breathe in any harmful substances, whilst carrying out critical work within our communities.
• Holds a valid UK driver’s licence: A full, valid UK driver’s licence is essential for this role.

Due to operational response times, you must be based within a commutable distance from the desired locations.
