Job summary

Citi’s FX Risk technology team seeks a Lead Java Developer – VP to architect real-time risk systems and leverage GenAI tools. You’ll deliver high‑performance Java applications across global markets, guiding architectural decisions and driving engineering standards in a production environment.

This role combines hands-on coding with strategic influence, mentoring engineers, participating in code reviews, and delivering weekly releases in an agile setup.

Qualifications

• Proven hands-on Java development experience in high-load, high-throughput systems.
• Deep understanding of JVM performance optimisation and memory tuning.
• Strong knowledge of distributed systems architecture and in‑memory computing.
• Proven production experience with Apache Ignite at scale.
• Strong MongoDB experience with CRUD, indexing, and tuning.
• Deep SQL knowledge, especially Oracle, and query optimisation.
• Experience with messaging technologies such as Apache Kafka and/or Solace.
• Proficiency in Linux environments and scripting.
• Experience deploying and maintaining apps on cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
• Passion for Test-Driven Development (TDD).
• Willingness to engage in L3 production support and end-to-end release ownership.

Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end delivery of complex, high-performance Java applications for FX risk management.
• Architect scalable, low-latency solutions processing real-time risk data.
• Drive technical direction and set engineering standards across the team.
• Translate complex business requirements into robust, high-quality code with stakeholders.
• Craft high-quality software in an agile environment using AI-powered coding tools.
• Share expertise and raise the bar as a technical reference for the team.
• Champion innovation by evaluating and adopting new technologies and frameworks.
• Own quality via cross-team code reviews, with Citi Squad AI reviewers.
• Own production support issues (L3) and deliver long-term remediation.
• Support testing cycles and post-production deployment with TDD-first code.
• Contribute to Citi's technology strategy for risk technology globally.
