Job summary

Prospero Teaching are recruiting Functional Skills Tutors to support children and young people in Dorchester and surrounding areas through personalised 1:1 tuition.

You will work with learners referred by Local Authorities, helping them develop essential English and Maths skills while building confidence and independence outside traditional classroom settings. Flexible hours and September start.

Qualifications

• Minimum 6 months' experience in an educational setting, including tutoring, teaching, teaching assistant, mentoring, learning support, or similar roles.
• Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills English and/or Maths
• Ability to adapt sessions to suit individual learning needs
• Experience supporting learners with SEND, EHCPs, or additional needs is desirable
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patient, reliable, and engaging approach
• Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one
• Driver preferred; alternatively, willingness to travel locally

Responsibilities

• Provide personalised 1:1 tuition in English and Maths.

Functional Skills Tutor

The Role

We're looking for Functional Skills Tutors to support children and young people in Dorchester and the surrounding areas through personalised 1:1 tuition.

Working with learners referred by Local Authorities, you'll help students develop essential English and Maths skills while improving confidence, independence, and engagement with education. Many of the young people supported require an alternative approach to learning and benefit from consistent, tailored support outside of a traditional classroom environment.

Whether you're an experienced tutor, teacher, teaching assistant, or mentor, this is an excellent opportunity to use your skills in a flexible and rewarding role.

Requirements
