Job summary

NHBC is seeking a Functional Skills Tutor to deliver English and maths to apprentices, combining in-person and virtual teaching to drive progress and outcomes. The role focuses on embedding Functional Skills across apprenticeship programmes and supporting learners toward their qualifications.

You will join a collaborative team, contribute to continuous improvement, and travel as required within Central England.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging Functional Skills teaching in English and maths through face-to-face and virtual sessions.
• Support apprentices across programmes to achieve Functional Skills qualifications.
• Monitor learner progress, conduct reviews and maintain records.
• Develop and update learning materials to keep content engaging and relevant.
• Collaborate with Trainers and Assessors to embed Functional Skills in programmes.
• Contribute to continuous improvements in training quality.
• Support reporting, learner feedback and wider team projects to help business objectives.

Job Role: Functional Skills Tutor

Salary: £38,000 - £42,000 + 6% performance bonus

Working Location: Central England, with frequent travel

Employment Type: Full Time, Permanent

This role will attract a job-needs car, subject to NHBC’s annual mileage requirement.

Please note: this role is subject to a DBS background check, carried out as part of our pre-employment screening. A full DVLA check will also be required for this role.

Job Summary

Are you passionate about helping people develop the skills they need to succeed? We're looking for an enthusiastic Functional Skills Tutor to deliver engaging English and maths learning to apprentices across a range of apprenticeship programmes. You'll combine face-to-face and virtual teaching to inspire learners, support their progress and help them achieve their full potential. What You’ll Be Doing

• Deliver engaging Functional Skills teaching in English and maths through both face-to-face and virtual sessions.
• Support apprentices across a range of apprenticeship programmes to achieve their Functional Skills qualifications.
• Monitor learner progress, carry out regular reviews and maintain accurate records.
• Develop and update learning materials to ensure content remains engaging, relevant and effective.
• Work closely with Trainers and Assessors to embed Functional Skills throughout apprenticeship programmes.
• Contribute to continuous improvements that enhance the quality of our training provision.
• Support reporting, learner feedback and wider team projects to help achieve business objectives.

What We’re Looking For

• Experience delivering Functional Skills teaching and lesson planning.
• Confident delivering engaging learning both in person and online.
• A passion for helping learners achieve their goals and reach their potential.
• Strong communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
• A Level 3 teaching or training qualification (such as AET) or higher.
• GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 5/B or above in English and maths.
• A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required.
• Experience working with apprentices or learners within the construction sector would be an advantage.
