Job summary

Novus is seeking a Functional Skills English Teacher for HMP Oakwood in Wolverhampton. The role is permanent, full-time, 37 hours per week, within our prison education service.

You will deliver engaging English lessons, assess learners, and contribute to a supportive, rehabilitative learning environment. The ideal candidate will hold a recognised teaching qualification, Level 2 Literacy, and have experience working with diverse learners and in multi-disciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate ability to teach English up to Level 2 as subject specialism.
• Achieve performance and quality targets.
• Produce accurate and timely reporting.
• Demonstrate positive team working.
• Have experience of conducting assessments and supporting learning of individuals and groups.
• Have experience of working with groups of learners with a range of abilities.
• Have experience of successful working in an effective multi-disciplinary team.
• Have experience creating stimulating, vibrant environments which are conducive to learning and motivational for learners.
• A good track record achieving of quality targets.
• Hold a teaching qualification and, where applicable, a relevant subject specialist qualification - with a commitment to obtain the outstanding qualification within 12 months
• Hold at least a Level 2 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy

We have a great opportunity available to join Novus, our prison education provider at HMP Oakwood, working as a Functional Skills English Teacher. This position is offered on a permanent, full-time basis, working 37hrs per week.

HMP Oakwood is a Category C men's prison located in Featherstone, Staffordshire, near Wolverhampton. It is one of the largest and most modern prisons in the United Kingdom. The teams' aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe, and where causes of prison stress are minimised. The prison's mission is to provide a secure, safe, and rehabilitative environment that encourages positive change and prepares inmates for a successful reintegration into society.
