Job summary

Veterans Regroup CIC is seeking a trauma‑informed, person‑centred Caseworker to support veterans and the wider Armed Forces Community across Cornwall. Based at the Truro VALOUR Hub, you will deliver high-quality casework across welfare benefits, housing, finances and health, via face-to-face, telephone and outreach clinics.

Qualifications

• Recent experience in casework, welfare support, advice, advocacy or similar.
• Experience supporting people with multiple needs, trauma or barriers to engagement.
• Collaborative working with statutory, health, military or community partners.
• Excellent communication, listening and assessment skills.
• Willingness to undertake a DBS check and required training.
• Access to suitable transport for travel across Cornwall (and occasional Plymouth).

• Maintain accurate case records in CharityLog and contribute to monitoring and reporting.
• Support safe daily operations of the Truro VALOUR Hub.
• Participate in induction, training, supervision and reflective practice.
• Contribute to multi-agency Armed Forces Hubs and wider organisational activities.

Location: Truro Community Library, with outreach across Cornwall and occasional travel to Plymouth

Salary: £29,095.00 per annum

Hours: 37.5 hours per week (including occasional evenings and weekends)

Contract: Fixed term until 31 March 2029 (subject to continued funding)

Veterans Regroup CIC is seeking a trauma‑informed, person‑centred Caseworker to support veterans and the wider Armed Forces Community across Cornwall. This role is part of the VALOUR partnership, working closely with Improving Lives Plymouth and Veterans Outdoors to ensure people receive the right support, in the right place, at the right time.

The Veterans Regroup Caseworker provides person‑centred information, advice and practical support to veterans and the wider Armed Forces Community in Cornwall.

About the Role

You will deliver high‑quality casework across a wide range of issues including welfare benefits, housing, finances, cost‑of‑living pressures, health and wellbeing, and access to community resources. The role involves structured assessments, support planning, advocacy within role boundaries, and making timely, consent‑based referrals.

You will help create a welcoming, trauma‑informed environment at the Truro VALOUR Hub and multi‑agency Armed Forces Hubs across Cornwall, meeting visitors, responding to enquiries and ensuring people are connected to the right support.

The postholder will deliver support through face‑to‑face appointments, telephone and digital support, outreach clinics, hospital and other healthcare settings.

Working in an Integrated Service

Many members of the Armed Forces Community face multiple challenges simultaneously. You will work collaboratively across the VALOUR partnership to reduce unnecessary handovers and ensure people do not have to repeatedly tell their story.

The operating model is designed to reduce the need for people to repeat their story, minimise unnecessary handovers and ensure they are connected to the right support as quickly and seamlessly as possible.

You will not be expected to be an expert in everything, but you will develop a strong understanding of partner services and help people access the most appropriate support.

Training and Professional Development

You will receive induction, training, supervision and ongoing professional development, with opportunities to broaden your knowledge over time while maintaining safe practice and clear professional boundaries.

• Recent experience in casework, welfare support, advice, advocacy or similar
• Experience supporting people with multiple needs, trauma or barriers to engagement
• Collaborative working with statutory, health, military or community partners
• Strong safeguarding, boundaries, confidentiality and data protection knowledge
• Excellent communication, listening and assessment skills
• Highly organised, able to manage a varied caseload and competing priorities
• Confident IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems
• Ability to work calmly, respectfully and independently
• Access to suitable transport for travel across Cornwall (and occasional Plymouth)
• Willingness to undertake a DBS check and required training
• Flexibility for occasional evening/weekend outreach
• Lived experience of the Armed Forces Community
• Knowledge of Armed Forces welfare or veteran support
• Experience in service development or multi‑agency working
