The University of Sheffield is seeking a proactive Software Developer to support development, maintenance and operation of our modern software applications, working with React, Next.js, Azure, MongoDB and PostgresDB. You will build responsive user interfaces, integrate backend APIs, and contribute to cloud-native architectures while following CI/CD practices and secure coding standards.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience developing responsive web applications using modern front‑end frameworks such as React, Next.js, or Modern.js, and MUI.
• Practical understanding of RESTful API design, OpenAPI specifications, or authentication frameworks (e.g., Better Auth).
• Hands-on familiarity querying and interacting with relational or non-relational database systems (PostgresDB, MongoDB).
• Working knowledge or exposure to Microsoft Azure cloud services, Container App Environments, or Databricks.
• Awareness of or interest in AI/LLM model integrations (e.g., Claude, Gemini) within modern software workflows.
• Strong problem‑solving ability, clear technical communication skills, and a collaborative approach to working within a team.

Responsabilités

• Full-Stack development of responsive interfaces using Next.js/React and MUI.
• Build and maintain secure API endpoints and manage data in PostgresDB and MongoDB.
• Support deployment on Microsoft Azure, Container Apps and Databricks.
• Integrate AI/LLM workflows into services using Azure DevOps for CI/CD.
• Perform unit and integration tests, document code, and participate in peer reviews.
• Collaborate with lead developers and project teams to deliver tasks on schedule.
• Carry out other duties commensurate with the post.
