Job summary

The University of Sheffield is seeking a proactive Software Developer to support development, maintenance, and day-to-day operation of modern software applications. You will work with a tech stack including React, Next.js, Azure, PostgresDB, and MongoDB, contributing to scalable cloud-native architectures and AI integrations.

You will collaborate with senior technical leads, implement CI/CD pipelines, follow secure coding practices, and engage in peer code reviews to deliver high-quality

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience developing responsive web applications using React, Next.js, or Modern.js and MUI.
• Experience with RESTful API design, OpenAPI specifications, or authentication frameworks (e.g., Better Auth).
• Hands-on familiarity querying relational or non-relational databases (PostgresDB, MongoDB).
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud services, Container App Environments, or Databricks is desirable.
• Experience using Git/Azure DevOps for version control, CI/CD pipelines.
• Awareness or interest in AI/LLM model integrations (Claude, Gemini) in software workflows is desirable.
• Strong problem-solving and clear technical communication in a collaborative team environment.

Responsibilities

• Full-Stack development of responsive web interfaces and features using modern front-end frameworks such as Next.js/React and MUI.
• Assist in building secure API endpoints using OpenAPI specifications and data management across PostgresDB and MongoDB.
• Support deployment and monitoring of environments on Microsoft Azure, Container Apps, and Databricks.
• Assist in integrating AI/LLM workflows into services, using Azure DevOps for version control and CI/CD.
• Perform unit and integration testing, debug issues, and write maintainable documentation.
• Collaborate with lead developers and project teams to deliver tasks on schedule and communicate progress.
