Job summary

SpaMedica is the UK’s largest NHS cataract surgery provider, based in Epsom. We are hiring an Optical Assistant on a fixed-term 12-month maternity cover, to join our Epsom cluster across multiple sites.

The role offers full-time hours (37.5 per week, 4 days out of 6) from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM with a starting salary of £27,762. As a Healthcare Technician/Optical Assistant you will support patient care and safety, working alongside optometrists and theatre teams.

This role will be based within our Epsom cluster, which involves working across multiple sites.

Hours: Full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, working 4 days out of 6, from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM

Responsibilities of the Optical Assistant:

• Adhere to the principles of clinical governance.


• Work alongside the optometrists in the day to day running of clinics carrying out the relevant diagnostics examinations.


• Assist in the running of pre and post-operative clinics for all patients.


• Act as theatre runner, escort in busy theatre environment.


• Be proficient in company database i.e medisoft


• Follow correct procedure for reporting any accidents or incidents.


• Prepare all areas prior to any clinical activities, ensuring all equipment is checked and ready for use.


• Ensure the correct storage of all equipment.


• Adhere to all policies and procedures.


• Assist with stock control, ensuring realistic par levels are maintained and all items are readily available.


• Manages all the diagnostic and theatre equipment on a daily basis.


• To ensure patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with GPDR
