Job summary

SpaMedica is recruiting an Optical Assistant for the Oxford cluster. This full-time, 37.5-hour role covers multiple sites with a 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM schedule. The position supports clinical governance, diagnostics, and peri-operative care within a leading NHS cataract service.

Based at 14 Blenheim Office Park, the role involves working across sites, adhering to safety, integrity and patient-focused care, with opportunities for development and staff benefits.

Qualifications

  • Adhere to clinical governance
  • Work with optometrists to run clinics and perform diagnostics
  • Assist in pre- and post-operative clinics
  • Act as theatre runner in busy theatre environments
  • Proficient with company database Medisoft
  • Follow procedures for reporting accidents/incidents
  • Prepare and check equipment and clinical spaces
  • Maintain sterile storage and stock levels

Responsibilities

  • Support day-to-day clinic operations and diagnostics alongside optometrists
  • Assist in pre- and post-operative patient pathways
  • Ensure patient confidentiality and data integrity
  • Assist with stock control and equipment management
  • Help maintain a safe, compliant clinical environment

Job description

Role: Optical Assistant

This role will be based within our Oxford cluster, which involves working across multiple sites.

Location: 14 Blenheim Office Park, Long Hanborough, Oxford, OX29 8LN
Hours: Full-time position, 37.5 hours per week, working 4 days out of 6, from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM
Salary: £27,762

Responsibilities of the Optical Assistant:
  • Adhere to the principles of clinical governance.
  • Work alongside the optometrists in the day to day running of clinics carrying out the relevant diagnostics examinations.
  • Assist in the running of pre and post-operative clinics for all patients.
  • Act as theatre runner, escort in busy theatre environment.
  • Be proficient in company database i.e medisoft
  • Follow correct procedure for reporting any accidents or incidents.
  • Prepare all areas prior to any clinical activities, ensuring all equipment is checked and ready for use.
  • Ensure the correct storage of all equipment.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures.
  • Assist with stock control, ensuring realistic par levels are maintained and all items are readily available.
  • Manages all the diagnostic and theatre equipment on a daily basis.
  • To ensure patient confidentiality at all times in accordance with GPDR
