Job summary

Essex County Council is hiring a Social Worker in the Assessment and Intervention Team, Mid Essex. The role is permanent and full-time, based in Chelmsford, with a salary range of £36,124 to £51,834 per annum. Closing date is 5 November 2026.

Visa sponsorship is not available, and newly qualified social workers are welcome. The role involves carrying a defined caseload, conducting assessments, and delivering short-term interventions to safeguard and support children and families.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in social work, CQSW, CSS or equivalent and registration with Social Work England as a registered Social Worker.
• Demonstrable capability of practice in accordance with current professional standards (PCF, KSS).
• Demonstrate ability in applying social work knowledge with emotional intelligence and analytical skills in challenging situations.

Responsibilities

• Manage a defined caseload with children, young people and families/carers.
• Conduct enquiries, assessments and purposeful interventions to achieve positive change.
• Undertake direct work and reviews related to Child Protection, Child in Need and Children Looked After.
• Support children in achieving permanency, including those in local authority care.
