Job summary

Energy Jobline ZR is seeking a Temporary Mechanical Design Engineer to design and deliver mechanical systems for water and wastewater projects in Sheffield. You will create drawings and specifications for pumps, pipes, valves and tanks, coordinating with civil, electrical and control engineers to ensure cohesive solutions.

The role requires UK mechanical design experience, familiarity with P&IDs and drawings, and knowledge of CDM safety standards.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or related subject.
• Detailed mechanical design experience.
• Experience with pumps, pipework, valves, tanks or process equipment.
• Ability to read and produce engineering drawings and P&IDs.
• Proficient with AutoCAD, Inventor or similar design software.
• Knowledge of relevant engineering standards and water industry requirements.
• Understanding of health and safety regulations, including CDM.
• Good communication and problem-solving skills.
• Understanding of how designs are installed and built on site.
• Must have a full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Design mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment plants.
• Produce engineering drawings, layouts, calculations and equipment specifications.
• Design and review pipework, pumps, valves and tanks.
• Prepare and interpret P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and general arrangement drawings.
• Coordinate designs with civil, electrical and control engineers.
• Ensure designs meet standards and safety requirements.
• Review equipment and design proposals from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Support site teams by answering technical questions and solving installation problems.
• Assist with testing, commissioning and project handover.
• Help prepare maintenance manuals and final project drawings.
• Find ways to improve safety, efficiency, cost and equipment performance.
