We are looking for freelance Gujarati interpreters and translators for healthcare, social care, legal and community work. Remote and face-to-face assignments are available.
Gujarati speakers in the UK include families who came directly from Gujarat and many with East African roots, from Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, whose Gujarati contains Swahili and English loanwords. Some clients speak Kutchi as well. Interpreters should be comfortable with older speakers, whose vocabulary can differ from current Gujarati in India.
Common settings are GP surgeries, hospital outpatients, care assessments, pharmacies and probate or property matters with solicitors. Translation work covers medical information, legal documents and community publications in the Gujarati script.
