SILA Linguists is recruiting freelance Marathi interpreters and translators for healthcare, family, immigration and business assignments. Work is available remotely and on site, with flexible scheduling to fit around your commitments.

Marathi interpreters translate medical and legal documents, provide consecutive and simultaneous interpretation, and maintain confidentiality under UK GDPR. A recognised qualification (DPSI/DPI) or equivalent experience is preferred, along with the right to work in

• Native or near-native fluency in Marathi and English, spoken and written.

• Reading and writing in Devanagari; Hindi is an advantage.
• Right to work in the UK for on-site assignments.
• A DBS check or willingness to obtain one for assignments requiring it.

• Transcribe and translate audio/video recordings if you have transcription skills.

SILA Linguists is recruiting freelance Marathi interpreters and translators for healthcare, family, immigration and business assignments. Work is available remotely and on site.

Marathi is the main language of Maharashtra in western India and is written in Devanagari. Many UK Marathi speakers work in IT, finance and healthcare, and requests often involve family members, such as parents or spouses, who are more comfortable in Marathi than in English or Hindi.

Assignments include GP and hospital appointments, maternity care, immigration matters and family proceedings. Translators work on certificates, educational records and property or legal documents from Maharashtra.

Responsibilities

• Interpret for Marathi speakers in health and family settings, including relatives visiting from India.
• Translate Marathi documents in Devanagari, including property and civil records.
• Interpret accurately and impartially, following the professional code of conduct and keeping all information confidential.
• Research subject-specific vocabulary before assignments, particularly for medical and legal bookings.
• Translate and proofread documents carefully, querying unclear source text rather than guessing.
• Transcribe and translate audio and video recordings, such as interviews and calls, if you have the skills for transcription work.

Requirements

• Native or near‑native fluency in Marathi and English, spoken and written.
• A recognised interpreting or translation qualification, such as the DPSI or DPI, or equivalent experience. Membership of CIOL, ITI or NRPSI is welcome but not required.
• Reading and writing in Devanagari; Hindi is an advantage.
• A current DBS check, or willingness to obtain one, for assignments that require it.
• The right to work in the UK for on‑site UK assignments.
• A dependable internet connection and a confidential space for remote interpreting.
