Job summary

Fawkes & Reece London is seeking a Freelance Design Manager to lead the design process on an MOJ FSI Fire Safety scheme in the MOD sector. The role is hybrid with 3 days on-site in Haverigg and 2 days at home, with a competitive day rate discussed and weekly pay.

You will coordinate design teams, ensure timely delivery of design information, review drawings for compliance with fire safety legislation, and work to meet programme requirements while adhering to security standards and project goals.

Qualifications

• Proven design management experience in construction.
• Experience delivering secure government/defence projects is desirable.
• Strong coordination and process management skills.
• Ability to manage multiple consultants and maintain design programmes.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coordinate the design process of fire safety.
• Ensure design information is delivered on time to meet programme requirements.

• Coordinate fire strategies, compartmentation plans and and passive/active fire protective systems.

• Work closely with site and commercial teams to resolve design issues and maintain project progress.
• Ensure design solutions meet MOD and secure facility requirements.

We are looking for a Freelance Design manager for our working on an MOJ FSI Fire Safety scheme. This is for a main contractor on a MOD fire improvements project, security clearance is not essential as contractor can put you through the clearance. This is a hybrid working position with 3 days on-site and 2 days working from home.

Key Responsibilities of the Freelance Design Manager:

• Manage and coordinate the design process of fire safety.
• Ensure design information is delivered on time to meet programme requirements.
• Ensure all designs comply with relevant fire safety legislations.
• Coordinate fire strategies, compartmentation plans and and passive/active fire protective systems.
• Review drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with project requirements, security standards, and buildability.
• Lead design team meetings and manage the flow of information between stakeholders.

Required Qualifications/Experience as a Freelance Design Manager:

• Proven experience as a Design Manager within the construction sector.
• Experience delivering secure government, defence, custodial, or highly regulated projects is highly desirable.
• Strong understanding of design coordination and technical compliance.
• Ability to manage multiple consultants and maintain design programmes.
