Job summary

Smarkets is a prediction market exchange seeking a Security Engineer to stand up security engineering from the ground up. You’ll define controls, automate security processes, and partner with Infrastructure and Engineering to protect trading systems and regulated entities.

The role emphasizes hands-on implementation, collaboration with auditors/regulators, and a culture of security ownership within a high-growth environment. Hybrid work in London-based offices is offered.

Qualifications

• Hands-on security engineering/DevSecOps in cloud-native, regulated environment.
• Ability to communicate risk, controls and decisions to auditors/regulators.
• Familiarity with CFTC safeguards and related regulatory requirements.
• Strong knowledge of OWASP Top 10, NIST, and secure SDLC practices.
• Proficiency with CI/CD tooling and security tooling.
• Experience securing AWS/Azure/GCP, Kubernetes, containers, and IaC.
• Automation proficiency in Python, Bash, or Go.

Responsibilities

• Build security foundations as part of a founding build
• Design, deploy, and maintain security controls and guardrails across cloud-native platforms
• Automate security processes as code within CI/CD pipelines
• Conduct risk audits and translate findings into actionable engineering guidance
• Monitor system access logs, detect anomalies, and support incident response
• Plan and test security backups and disaster recovery
• Develop and maintain security policies and documentation for regulatory examinations
• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to embed security into solutions
• Foster ownership of security within the engineering community
