Job summary

NHS Shetland is hiring a Food Services Assistant to join the Catering Team. This hands-on role supports patient care and provides good food for staff and visitors, with shifts Friday 11:00–15:00 and Sat/Sun 08:30–17:30 across two catering settings (servery and main production kitchen).

No prior NHS catering experience is required; full training and support are provided. Band 2 salary £26,696–£28,988 per annum (pro rata) plus Distant Islands Allowance £2,578 per annum (pro rata).

Qualifications

• Food hygiene and safe food handling
• Basic cooking and kitchen skills
• Customer service and communication
• Teamworking in a busy environment
• Experience in NHS standards is advantageous

Responsibilities

• Fridays – Servery: customer-facing food service, basic cooking, handling, stock control, cleaning
• Saturdays & Sundays – Main Production Kitchen: assist with patient meals, food trolleys, cleanliness and safety
