Job summary

Elementa Support Services is partnering with a welcoming Welsh-medium secondary school in Cardiff to recruit an experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) who can lead lessons when teachers are absent and support high-quality teaching.

You will work with learners across KS3-4, support ALN/SEND, manage classrooms, and contribute to safeguarding and wellbeing. Welsh fluency and EWC registration are preferred. The role offers ongoing CPD and a positive school community.

Qualifications

• Welsh fluency is essential for the role.
• HLTA status or substantial HLTA experience.
• UK school-based experience in teaching and learning.
• EWC registration or willingness to obtain it.
• Enhanced DBS check or willingness to apply.

Responsibilities

• Lead pre-planned lessons when teachers are absent.
• Support engaging, inclusive learning across the classroom.
• Work with individuals and small groups to boost confidence and achievement.
• Support pupils with ALN/SEND to reach their full potential.
• Monitor progress and feed back to teaching staff.
• Promote positive behaviour, wellbeing, and safeguarding.
• Play an active role in school life alongside teachers and leadership teams.

What you'll be doing

No two days are the same, but you'll be:

• Leading pre-planned lessons when teachers are absent

What we're looking for

You'll ideally have:

• Fluency in Welsh (essential for the role)
• HLTA status or substantial experience in a similar role
• UK school-based experience supporting teaching and learning
• Excellent classroom management and communication skills
• Confidence leading whole-class learning
• EWC registration (or be happy to obtain it)
• An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to apply (we can help)

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience across KS1-KS4
• Experience supporting pupils with ALN/SEND
• A flexible, proactive approach and a great sense of teamwork
