Job summary

Step Teachers is seeking a SEND Teaching Assistant for full-time, long-term roles in Hertford and surrounding areas. You will support pupils with SEND across different school settings, promoting inclusion and safeguarding.

Ideal candidates will have SEND experience, resilience, empathy, and strong communication skills, with qualifications such as Team Teach or CACHE Level 2/3. You will work closely with teachers and SENCOs to support pupil progress and well-being.

Qualifications

• Has experience supporting children with SEND in educational settings.
• Demonstrates resilience, empathy and a calm approach to challenging behaviour.
• Is confident working independently and as part of a team.
• Has excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Holds relevant training or qualifications (e.g. Team Teach, Step On, CACHE Level 2/3).
• Is committed to promoting pupil well-being and progress.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with a range of special educational needs including ASD, SEMH, MLD and SLD.
• Assist with behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies.
• Work closely with teachers and SENCOs to implement individual support plans.
• Encourage pupil engagement and participation in learning activities.
• Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs.
• Maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Uphold safeguarding and behaviour policies consistently.
