Job summary

NHS Scotland, at Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow, seeks a Bank Staff Nurse (Band 5) to join the 16-bed Inpatient Unit providing specialist palliative care. Bank shifts are ad hoc, offering flexible hours within a 24/7 service.

You will work in a multidisciplinary team delivering skilled nursing care, admissions/discharges, and support to patients and families in challenging times, while upholding hospice values.

Qualifications

• First Level Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organisational and time management abilities.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Flexible approach to work and changing priorities.
• Good leadership skills and initiative.
• Commitment to compassionate, patient-centred care aligned with hospice values.
• Basic IT skills and computer literacy.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, person-centred nursing care to patients with complex palliative care needs.
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate care programmes.
• Support patients and families with compassion, dignity and respect.
• Coordinate safe admissions and discharges with the multidisciplinary team.
• Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with professional standards.
• Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement activities.
• Act as a role model for junior staff and students.
• Contribute to a safe and supportive care environment.
• Work flexibly across day and night shifts as required.
