Job summary

United Utilities' Fleet Maintenance team is seeking a skilled Fleet Technician/HGV Mechanic to ensure the upkeep of a diverse range of vehicles and machinery at our Trafford workshop in Manchester. This permanent, full-time role involves detailed inspections, standard and complex repairs, and proactive maintenance planning to minimize downtime and extend fleet life.

Qualifications

• Experience using vehicle diagnostic equipment.
• Team working and collaboration with operators.
• Strong communication with customers and contractors.
• Knowledge of Transport and Health and Safety Legislation.
• Welding and fabrication skills (MIG) would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Streamlined Fleet Maintenance: Ensure timely and cost-effective upkeep of diverse vehicles, optimizing operational efficiency.
• Operator Collaboration: Work closely with operators for seamless maintenance and repairs, enhancing fleet performance.
• Lifecycle Management: Manage commissioning and decommissioning of vehicles, ensuring fleet readiness.
• Compliance Mastery: Maintain accurate records and adhere to transport and safety regulations.
• Mentorship & Flexibility: Support apprentices and adapt to varying work demands, showing leadership.

Education

Time served apprentice with City and Guilds level 3 in HGV maintenance and repair OR equivalent

Valid driving licence

Ability to learn Class 1 HGV licence
