Job summary

Napier Turbochargers, part of Wabtec Corporation, based in Lincoln, is seeking a Mechanical Fitter to balance, assemble, test and deliver high‑precision turbochargers. You will read engineering drawings, use calibrated measuring tools, and contribute to continuous improvement within a supportive, safe workplace.

Essentially you should have a recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3. Desirable: 4+ years in industrial engineering with rotating equipment or turbochargers

Qualifications

• Essential: Recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent).
• Desirable: minimum four years' relevant industrial engineering experience.
• Experience with rotating equipment, engines or turbochargers is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Balance, assemble, test and deliver turbochargers.
• Read engineering drawings and interpret specifications.
• Work with calibrated measuring equipment to ensure quality.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and teamwork.
• Some UK and international travel may be required (experience dependent).

What you'll be doing:

As a Mechanical Fitter, you'll play a key role in the balancing, assembly, testing and delivery of world-class turbochargers.

You'll gain exposure to multiple manufacturing, testing and engineering activities including:

• Turbocharger assembly
• Dynamic rotor balancing
• Development and Production testing
• Measurement using calibrated equipment
• Continuous improvement initiatives
• Supporting service engineering activities
• Opportunities for UK and international travel (experience dependant.)

Qualifications:

Essential:

• Recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 qualification (or equivalent)

Experience:

Desirable but not essential:

• A minimum of four years' relevant industrial engineering experience
• Experience of rotating equipment, engines, turbochargers or similar mechanical assemblies
• Dynamic balancing experience
• Turbocharger testing and commissioning experience

Skills

• The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Experience using a range of calibrated measuring equipment
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• A self-motivated approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality work
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute towards departmental objectives
