Job summary

Strong Recruitment Group in Stevenage is seeking a Fit-Out Estimator to support its growing pre-construction and commercial functions within a specialist office fit-out environment. The role focuses on design-and-build partitioning, ceilings and complete fit-out packages.

You will work with an experienced Lead Estimator on tender activity, cost take-offs and commercial management of secured projects. The hybrid setup includes office, site and home working, with clear progression opportunities as

Qualifications

• Experience estimating for office fit-out, interiors or related subcontracting.
• Ability to read construction drawings and tender docs.
• Experience taking-offs and preparing detailed estimates.

Responsibilities

• Review tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and scope documents.
• Complete accurate quantity take-offs and prepare detailed cost estimates.
• Price labour, materials, plant and subcontractor packages.
• Obtain and assess quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
• Prepare competitive tender submissions within agreed deadlines.
• Identify scope gaps, tender risks, exclusions and commercial considerations.
• Attend site surveys, pre-tender meetings and client meetings when required.
• Provide value-engineering options and alternative proposals where appropriate.
• Support the handover of secured projects from estimating to the delivery team.
• Work alongside Project Managers to monitor project costs, budgets and margins.
• Assist with procurement, variations, valuations and applications for payment.
• Maintain accurate tender and commercial records throughout each project.

Fit-Out Estimator

Location: Stevenage, Hertfordshire

Salary: £60,000-£75,000 per annum, depending on experience

A growing office fit-out specialist is looking to appoint a Fit-Out Estimator to support its expanding pre-construction and commercial functions.

The company specialises in design-and-build partitioning and ceiling packages, while also delivering complete office fit-out projects. Typical specialist subcontract packages range from approximately £100,000 to £800,000, with larger fit-out projects also undertaken.

This is a newly created position due to continued business growth. You will work alongside an experienced Lead Estimator, supporting tender activity while also assisting Project Managers with the commercial management of secured projects.

The role would suit an estimator with experience in commercial fit-out, interiors, partitioning, ceilings or drylining who is looking for a varied position with the opportunity to develop broader commercial responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Experience and Requirements

• Previous estimating experience within office fit-out, commercial interiors or a related specialist subcontracting environment.
• Experience with partitioning, ceilings, drylining or complete fit-out packages would be advantageous.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Experience completing take-offs and preparing detailed estimates.
• Good understanding of labour, material and subcontractor pricing.
• Strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.
• Confident communication skills when dealing with clients, suppliers, subcontractors and internal teams.
• Ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines effectively.
• Competent user of Microsoft Excel and relevant estimating software.
• Comfortable working independently while collaborating with the Lead Estimator and Project Managers.
