Job summary

Building Careers UK seeks an experienced Estimator / Senior Estimator to join its commercial team in Barnsley. You will price dry lining, plastering, ceilings and interior fit-out packages from enquiry through tender to handover.

The ideal candidate has proven estimator experience in construction, strong Excel and IT skills, and can manage multiple tenders with accuracy and commercial focus.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator within construction.
• Strong experience in dry lining, plastering, ceilings, partitions or interior fit out.
• Experience pricing projects for main contractors / Tier 1 contractors.
• Good understanding of construction costs and first-principles estimating.
• Ability to read drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Strong quantity take-off and measurement skills.

Responsibilities

• Review tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and scopes of work.
• Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for dry lining and interior fit-out projects.
• Price projects ranging from approximately £100k - £2m.
• Carry out detailed quantity take-offs and measurements.
• Build up rates for labour, materials, plant, access and preliminaries.
• Obtain and review supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Prepare tender submissions and supporting documentation.
• Identify risks, exclusions and commercial opportunities.
• Liaise with clients, Tier 1 contractors, suppliers and subcontractors.
• Review technical drawings and specifications.

Estimator / Senior Estimator - Dry Lining & Interior Fit Out

Location - Barnsley

Salary/Package - £55,000 - £65,000 + Excellent Benefits Package

About the Company

Our client is a well-established, family-run construction specialist based in South Yorkshire, delivering projects across the North of England.

The business specialises in commercial dry lining, plastering, metal stud partitioning, suspended ceilings, acoustic wall panels, SFS and office fit-outs. They have built a strong reputation for delivering projects on time, on budget and to high standards, with experience across commercial, education, residential, hospitality and refurbishment projects.

The company works with major Tier 1 contractors and has developed a strong pipeline of projects ranging from approximately £100k to £2m, with an established and growing business model.

The Role

Due to continued growth, the business is looking to appoint an experienced Estimator / Senior Estimator to join the commercial team.

The role will focus on pricing dry lining, plastering, ceilings, partitions and associated interior fit-out packages, working on projects from initial enquiry through to tender submission and handover.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Estimator who wants to join a growing specialist contractor and take genuine ownership of the estimating function.

Key Responsibilities

• Reviewing tender enquiries, drawings, specifications and scopes of work
• Preparing accurate and competitive estimates for dry lining and interior fit-out projects
• Pricing projects ranging from approximately £100k - £2m
• Carrying out detailed quantity take-offs and measurements
• Building up rates for labour, materials, plant, access and preliminaries
• Obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Preparing tender submissions and supporting documentation
• Identifying risks, exclusions and commercial opportunities
• Liaising with clients, Tier 1 contractors, suppliers and subcontractors
• Reviewing technical drawings and specifications
• Identifying value engineering opportunities where appropriate
• Ensuring estimates are accurate and commercially competitive
• Supporting tender adjudication and final pricing
• Preparing clear tender breakdowns and pricing documentation
• Working closely with the commercial and operational teams
• Assisting with the handover of successful tenders into delivery
• Maintaining accurate estimating records and cost information
• Supporting the continued development of estimating processes and procedures

The Ideal Candidate

• Proven experience as an Estimator or Senior Estimator within construction
• Strong experience within dry lining, plastering, ceilings, partitions or interior fit out
• Experience pricing projects for main contractors / Tier 1 contractors
• Good understanding of construction costs and first-principles estimating
• Ability to read drawings, specifications and tender documentation
• Strong quantity take-off and measurement skills
• Experience obtaining and analysing supplier and subcontractor quotations
• Strong commercial awareness
