Job summary

Bimplus is seeking an Estimator to join the pre-construction team, working with senior estimators and the commercial group on commercial and industrial fit-out and refurbishment projects across the UK. Projects range from £100k to £3m with typical durations of 5 weeks to 5 months.

The role is open to Assistant through to Senior levels, with responsibilities and salary reflecting experience. Candidates from different sectors who have the right character, attitude and passion to develop within the

Qualifications

• BSc in Quantity Surveying or HND/HNC in Construction preferred, though relevant estimating experience considered.
• Experience in estimating or pre-construction within construction.
• Strong understanding of construction costs, materials, labour and subcontractor packages.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specs and tender documentation.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Full UK Driving Licence.

Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate estimates and tenders for a mix of competitive tenders, repeat client price work and framework opportunities.
• Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation.
• Complete take-offs and prepare detailed cost estimates.
• Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
• Build up rates and pricing for labour, materials, plant and subcontractor packages.
• Prepare preliminaries, overheads and profit allowances.
• Review and compare subcontractor and supplier tenders for competitive pricing.
• Identify risks, exclusions and opportunities within tender packages.
• Assist with tender queries and clarifications during pre-construction.
• Attend site visits, client meetings and tender meetings as required.
• Work with Pre-Construction Director and team to develop tenders through to submission.
• Take increasing responsibility for full pre-construction process as experience develops.

Projects range in value from £100k to £3m, with typical programme durations of 5 weeks to 5 months.

Duties

• Prepare accurate estimates and tenders for a mixture of competitive tenders, repeat client price work and framework opportunities.
• Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work and tender documentation.
• Complete take-offs and prepare detailed cost estimates.
• Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.

Requirements

• BSc in Quantity Surveying, HND or HNC in Construction would be preferred, although relevant estimating experience will also be considered.
• Experience working in an estimating or pre-construction role within construction.
• Candidates from different construction sectors will be considered, with the right character, attitude and willingness to develop.
• Strong understanding of construction costs, materials, labour and subcontractor packages.
• Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Strong attention to detail with good commercial awareness.
• Good communication and negotiation skills.
• Ability to work to deadlines and manage multiple tenders at different stages.
