Job summary

microTECH Global LTD in the United Kingdom is seeking an experienced Firmware Engineer to design, develop and optimise low-level firmware for resource-constrained embedded systems.

You will work with ARM Cortex-M/RISC-V architectures, C/C++, assembly, and real-time debugging tools to maximise performance, power efficiency and reliability. The role also involves close collaboration with hardware teams and thorough documentation of firmware design.

Qualifications

• Experience developing embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems.
• Strong knowledge of assembly language and machine-level optimisation.
• Proficiency in C/C++ and understanding of compiler internals.
• Deep understanding of microprocessor/microcontroller architectures and RAM/flash constraints.
• Experience with real-time debugging and hardware interfacing tools (JTAG/SWD).

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain embedded firmware for microprocessor-based products.
• Develop software in C/C++ and assembly for real-time embedded systems.
• Analyse and optimise compiler-generated machine code for speed and efficiency.
• Perform low-level debugging using JTAG, SWD, scopes and logic analyzers.
• Collaborate with hardware engineers to bring up boards and validate firmware functionality.
• Optimise compiler settings and linker configurations for performance.
• Develop and maintain bootloaders, device drivers and HALs.
• Investigate performance bottlenecks at firmware/processor level.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to embedded software architecture decisions.
• Create technical documentation on firmware design and optimisation strategies.
