Job summary

Ocado is seeking an experienced Senior Fire Risk Governance professional to lead fire safety strategy across UK sites and scalable operations. You will advise engineering and operations on risk controls, embed fire safety in contracts, and manage external regulators and auditors.

You will contribute to the HSFE governance framework, providing clear, business-focused guidance on complex fire risk issues for multi-site operations and new territory entries.

Qualifications

• Degree-level qualification in a relevant discipline or equivalent recognised professional qualification with demonstrable industry experience.
• Current professional membership of a recognised fire safety, risk management or related institution.
• Experience of fire risk management in a relevant industrial setting, including multi-site and multi-jurisdictional level with demonstrable strategic and commercial judgement.
• Competence to determine and oversee fire risk assessment methodology, standards and competent-person requirements, directing and quality-assuring specialist work.
• Experience advising and influencing senior operational leaders on fire risk with clear, business-risk, decision-ready advice.

Responsibilities

• Leading external fire safety relationships with regulators, fire and rescue authorities, and 3rd party auditors.
• Contributing to HSFE Governance with shared frameworks, accountability models, and committee structures beyond fire.
• Advising on emerging thermal risks from robotic automation and scale, incl. lithium-ion batteries and high-bay environments.
• Advising on fire risk and legal compliance across territories, testing control effectiveness and holding first-line operations to account.
• Providing specialist technical review of entry into new territories and embedding fire safety in contracts, design and project delivery.
