Salary/Pay rate/Benefits: approx 170£ p/day or up to 45k per annum

Location: Bridgwater, Somerset

Hours of work: 40 hrs, 5 day pattern

Job Purpose / Overview

The Fire Safety Coordinator is part of a team of specialist safety and compliance professionals reporting to the Fire Safety Manager. The main purpose of the job is to facilitate and coordinate fire safety data management systems, administer and collate the fire safety audit and assurance programme, site fire risk assessments, and risk information. The role also supports fire safety advice to the Principal Contractor, promotes a positive fire safety culture, and coordinates fire safety among various contractors working on the project and at associated development sites.

Operating Environment

The Hinkley Point C (HPC) Project is one of Europe's largest infrastructure projects, marking a significant revival of the UK's nuclear industry, offering substantial opportunities for Somerset, the South West, and the wider UK.

The project involves multiple contractor organizations to ensure safe, high-quality, on-schedule, and within-budget delivery. The Fire Safety Team manages fire safety standards on the HPC construction site, working closely with construction, delivery teams, and site contractors.

Principal Accountabilities
  1. Facilitate and administer fire safety and emergency preparedness data management systems, audit, and assurance programmes.
  2. Support stakeholder meetings, including regulators and emergency services.
  3. Contribute to implementing the fire safety strategy.
  4. Assist with communication of lessons learned, toolbox talks, and fire safety moments.
  5. Coordinate and support regular fire safety inspections and checks.
  6. Assist in producing management reports, newsletters, and bulletins.
  7. Manage fire safety learning and improvements via the company learning tool.
  8. Oversee fire safety and emergency preparedness statistics, metrics, and dashboards.
  9. Perform other ad-hoc duties as required.
Dimensions

This position does not have line management or budget responsibilities but requires autonomous decision-making within policy guidelines, working closely with the Fire Safety Manager and other safety teams to maintain fire safety standards across the project.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Knowledge & Skills
  • Excellent ICT skills, including high proficiency in Microsoft Power BI & Excel.
  • Effective communication skills for building relationships with contractors and responders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills with a methodical approach.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage workload and priorities.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Experience with Power BI Desktop & Service.
  • Experience with ICT systems and Microsoft applications.
  • Experience in document creation and review.
  • Experience managing small projects or initiatives.
  • Fire Safety and Fire Risk Assessments experience is desirable but not essential.
  • Construction Health & Safety experience is desirable but not essential.
