Job summary

Suffolk County Council's Fleet Team is seeking a skilled Fleet Technician to maintain and repair our fleet of light vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, fire appliances and specialist equipment. You will work from Phoenix House Workshops and travel to fire stations across Suffolk as needed.

The role requires City and Guilds/NVQ Level 3 in vehicle maintenance, a full UK driving licence (Cat C), and the ability to diagnose faults using CAN Bus systems.

Qualifications

• Significant experience maintaining and repairing commercial vehicles over 3.5 tonnes.
• City and Guilds or NVQ Level 3 in vehicle maintenance and repair; apprenticeship advantageous.
• Full UK driving licence including Category C (Class 2).
• Flexible approach to work and ability to participate in the call-out rota.
• Strong problem‑solving, analytical and diagnostic skills.

• Good understanding of safe working practices, including working at height and lifting equipment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service's fleet of light vehicles, heavy goods vehicles, fire appliances and specialist equipment.
• Carry out servicing and repairs from Phoenix House Workshops or on-site at fire stations across Suffolk.
• Diagnose faults using electrical/electronic systems and CAN Bus technology.
• Be part of the 24‑hour emergency call-out rota to maximise vehicle availability.
• Support safety and compliance throughout maintenance activities.
