Job summary

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service is seeking a Heavy Vehicle Technician (HGV Mechanic) to maintain and service a fleet of heavy vehicles, ensuring safety, reliability and readiness for frontline operations. You will work with transport leadership to deliver high-quality services that meet KPIs and SLAs.

This permanent role offers full-time hours with overtime options, a market supplement, and a comprehensive benefits package through the Local Government Pension Scheme.

Qualifications

• Relevant qualifications in heavy vehicle maintenance and experience in a high-volume environment.
• Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Full current driving licence including LGV Category C (training could be provided).
• Familiarity with Health & Safety practices in a workshop setting.

Responsibilities

• Carry out servicing, inspections, repairs and planned maintenance.
• Respond to service requests and attend breakdowns, providing static and mobile support.
• Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and organisational procedures.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and vehicle data.
• Collaborate with internal teams and external suppliers to achieve service outcomes.
• Contribute to service improvements and participate in key projects and initiatives.
