Job summary

RM Recruit is partnered with a Birmingham-based charity to recruit a Financial Controller - Projects & Grants. The role provides organisation-wide financial control, oversight and reporting across an international portfolio.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will lead strategic financial leadership, donor compliance, risk management and audit readiness, with responsibility for a dedicated finance team and ERP development initiatives.

Qualifications

• Professional accounting qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA, ICAEW, ICMA, CMA or equivalent).
• Senior-level experience leading and managing finance functions or teams.
• Experience in financial reporting, financial control, budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling.
• Experience managing project and grant finances, ideally within an international NGO, charity or similarly complex environment.

RM Recruit is delighted to be partnering with a Birmingham based charity to organisation to recruit a Financial Controller - Projects & Grants.

This is a senior finance leadership opportunity with organisation-wide responsibility for the financial control, oversight and reporting of projects and grants across an international portfolio.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, you will provide strategic financial leadership across project and grant-related finances, ensuring strong financial controls, accurate reporting, donor compliance, effective risk management and audit readiness.

Main duties include:

• Lead financial oversight and control across the full project and grant lifecycle.
• Manage the integrity and accuracy of project and grant-related general ledger activity, reconciliations and month-end/year-end processes.
• Lead budgeting, forecasting and financial planning across the portfolio.
• Ensure compliance with donor requirements, statutory obligations and internal financial policies.
• Oversee project and grant financial reporting, providing clear and insightful analysis to senior stakeholders.
• Provide financial advice and business partnering support to regional, country and programme teams.
• Identify and mitigate financial risks and strengthen the overall control environment.
• Lead the preparation of statutory financial information relating to project and grant activities.
• Maintain and improve financial policies, procedures and supporting guidance, ensuring effective implementation across teams.
• Lead, manage and develop a dedicated finance team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
• Support ERP development, process improvement and organisational change initiatives.
• Undertake domestic and international travel as required to provide financial oversight, training and capacity building.

We are looking for an experienced finance leader who can combine strong technical accounting expertise with strategic thinking and effective stakeholder management.

You will ideally have a recognised professional accounting qualification such as ACCA, CIMA, ACA, ICAEW, ICMA, CMA or equivalent. Significant senior-level experience leading and managing finance functions or teams is desirable coupled with strong experience in financial reporting, financial control, budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling. Experience managing project and grant finances, ideally within an international NGO, charity or similarly complex environment is desirable including strong knowledge of UK GAAP, Charity SORP and institutional donor requirements.

You will possess strong excel and process improvement skills whilst possessing excellent communication, influencing and business partnering skills, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
