Job description

Kents Hill Park is a dedicated training and conference centre located on the outskirts of Milton Keynes, offering a peaceful environment with easy access to major road, rail, and airport networks. It features over 70 meeting rooms, 300 bedrooms, and an onsite leisure club operated by Nuffield Health. The venue can accommodate up to 600 delegates, making it one of the largest in the UK, and is part of The Venues Collection, a division of Compass Group UK & Ireland.

The Role:

To lead in all areas of Commercial / Financial Development to help achieve the venue's profit targets. Ensure adherence to company policies, brand standards, and budgeted profitability. Lead Profit Protection Audit compliance and challenge forecasting and budgeting data for accuracy.

Finance Team: Assistant Financial Controller, Finance Assistance

Department Responsibilities:

  • Use forecasting to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Develop unit Heads of Department into commercially aware managers.
  • Provide financial training to operational teams.
  • Monitor cost drivers and identify savings.
  • Control payroll costs and maintain accurate records.
  • Collaborate with management to produce high-quality management information.
  • Implement reporting on market trends.
  • Ensure proficiency in all IT systems related to finance.
  • Maintain knowledge of venue facilities and events.
  • Manage Profit Protection manual actions.
  • Ensure SOP compliance within the department.
  • Proactively manage team duties and responsibilities.
  • Handle guest queries and feedback effectively.
  • Develop high guest care standards and interactions.
  • Hold monthly departmental meetings.
  • Participate in management meetings as required.
  • Ensure effective inter-department communication.
  • Control stationary and equipment usage.
  • Prepare accurate guest bills.
  • Manage PM accounts usage.
  • React promptly to maintenance issues and record in Opera.
  • Ensure team adherence to profiling and SOPs.
  • Drive email capture for marketing.
  • Carry out Duty Management shifts as needed.

People:

  • Complete department rota based on business needs.
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding, and ongoing training of staff.
  • Conduct regular appraisals and maintain motivation.
  • Set and monitor team objectives.
  • Maintain SOP compliance and effective communication.
  • Handle discipline and grievances according to policies.

Health and Safety:

  • Take ownership of all H&S matters in your department.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and safety requirements.

Finance:

  • Maintain costs within budget and propose corrective actions.
  • Prepare staff rotas aligned with forecasted demand.
  • Order supplies and control stock and costs.
  • Ensure services are correctly charged to guests.

Sales:

  • Lead by example in guest relations and brand representation.
  • Monitor competitors and identify sales opportunities.
