Grafton Banks Finance is working with a growing PE-backed group seeking to hire a Financial Controller on a 12-month contract.
This role involves integrating a newly acquired business into the Group’s existing financial systems, processes, and controls, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting. The Financial Controller will be part of the senior management team, leading all accounting aspects for an SME business.
The ideal candidate is an experienced Financial Controller familiar with SME environments or divisions of larger companies. They should be comfortable being hands-on, detail-oriented, and experienced in developing processes and controls. Experience in PE-backed businesses or in integrating acquisitions is highly advantageous. A background in industrial businesses is essential.
The position is based in Hemel Hempstead, primarily office-based (approximately 4 days per week). The salary range is £85,000 – 95,000 plus benefits. Immediate availability is preferred, with a notice period of under two weeks.
Key responsibilities include:
Ensuring strong financial governance and risk management before full integration by analyzing existing financial data and processes, and supporting the implementation of controls for oversight and daily operations.
Collaborating with operational leaders to prepare budgets and forecasts aligned with group requirements.
Leading month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely and accurate reports.
Preparing and presenting management accounts, variance analysis, and board reports.
Maintaining and enhancing internal controls, policies, and procedures for compliance and risk mitigation.
Supporting external audits and statutory compliance.
Working with commercial, operational, and project teams to improve financial visibility and margins.
Monitoring working capital, cash flow forecasting, and optimization.
