Job summary

Brewer Morris in London is seeking an experienced Financial Accounting Manager to join its finance team. The role covers financial control, statutory reporting, tax, audit management and team leadership, with a hands-on, pro-active approach.

You will work closely with senior finance leadership to strengthen controls, improve processes and deliver accurate and timely reporting, while supporting ongoing transformation initiatives in a hybrid setup (3 days in office, 2 days flexible).

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with ACA/ACCA or equivalent.
• Strong financial accounting and controls within financial services.
• Experience managing a finance team and external audits.
• Proven ability to improve processes and reduce risk.

Responsibilities

• Manage the month-end close and deliver timely financial reporting.
• Oversee accounts payable controls and governance.
• Review balance sheet reconciliations and control processes.
• Coordinate annual statutory accounts and disclosures.
• Lead internal and external audit activities and respond to queries.
• Oversee VAT compliance, quarterly returns and tax adjustments.
• Support corporation tax compliance and reporting.
• Oversee fixed asset accounting, accruals, intercompany accounting.
• Oversee treasury reconciliations and cash control.
• Mentor junior finance staff and drive finance transformation.

Job description

Our client is a well-established and growing financial services organisation seeking an experienced Financial Accounting Manager to join its London-based finance team. This is a broad and hands-on role offering responsibility across financial control, statutory reporting, tax, audit management and team leadership.

Working closely with senior finance leadership, you will play a key role in strengthening financial controls, improving processes and ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely financial reporting. The position offers significant exposure across the finance function and the opportunity to contribute to ongoing transformation and efficiency initiatives.

Responsibilities:

• Manage the month-end close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
• Oversee accounts payable operations, maintaining robust controls and governance
• Review and manage balance sheet reconciliations and control processes
• Support the preparation of annual statutory accounts and financial statement disclosures
• Coordinate internal and external audit activities, including responding to audit queries and providing supporting documentation
• Oversee VAT compliance, quarterly returns and annual adjustments
• Support corporation tax compliance, reporting and submissions
• Manage fixed asset accounting, accruals, prepayments and intercompany accounting processes
• Oversee treasury-related reconciliations and cash control activities
• Review and improve financial processes, controls and documentation
• Lead, develop and mentor junior members of the finance team (at least 1 direct reoport)
• Contribute to finance transformation and continuous improvement initiatives
• Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and internal governance standards

Skills & Experience:

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
• Strong financial accounting and financial control experience within financial services.
• Experience managing direct reports advantageous.
• Experience overseeing accounts payable process.
• Experience preparing statutory accounts and working with auditors
• Strong understanding of UK VAT and corporate tax processes
• Experience managing month-end and year-end reporting cycles
• Proven ability to improve processes, strengthen controls and drive efficiencies
• Strong reconciliation and balance sheet control experience
• Experience managing or mentoring junior finance professionals
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet tight deadlines
• Hands-on approach with strong attention to detail and a proactive mindset
