Job summary

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is seeking a Financial Accountant to join the Corporate Services, Finance and Analysis area. The role encompasses external financial reporting, including the Annual Report and Accounts, with liaison to External Auditors and applying IFRS and FReM.

You will report to the Head of Financial Accounting, contribute to balance sheet accounting and medium-term planning, and participate in Spending Reviews.

Qualifications

• Experience in external financial reporting including the production of Annual Report and Accounts.
• Knowledge of IFRS and the Government Financial Reporting Manual (FReM).
• Experience liaising with external auditors and providing technical accounting guidance.

Responsibilities

• Ensuring IFRS and FReM compliant finance processes and reporting.
• Producing financial statements, notes and narratives for IFRS/FReM and presenting to stakeholders.
• Supporting continuous improvement and transformation of financial systems and data.
• Producing quarterly consolidation packs for submission to DfT and ensuring consistency with internal reporting.
• Working with diverse stakeholders during the audit period to progress annual reports and accounts.
• Providing technical accounting advice to business managers in complex situations.
• Ensuring Non-Current Assets are recognised, componentised and reported, and IFRS16 leasing is correctly accounted for.
