Responsibilities

• Responsible for month end and year end processes and reporting, in line with timetables.
• Prepare and post journals, review accruals and prepayments, and support forecast variance explanations.
• Ensure integrity of transactions in financial systems with strong controls.
• Analyse financial and non-financial data to identify trends and correlations affecting MCA decisions.
• Support Finance Business Partners by explaining budget variances and risks to senior managers.
• Produce high-quality monthly finance reports and management information for senior leaders.

The Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) is seeking a Deputy Management Accountant within the The Management Accounting team is part of the Strategic Finance team, sat within the Corporate Services Directorate. Strategic Finance is responsible for managing the medium-term financial plans of the Agency and ensuring that its c. £500m total budget is deployed in an efficient and value for money way. Find out more about what it's like working at: Maritime and Coastguard Agency - Department for Transport Careers As the Deputy Management Accountant's you will ensure ensure the smooth running of month end and year end activities, along with ad hoc financial support. Linking in with the Finance Business Partners, to support them with their responsibilities. Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

Responsibilities

• Responsible for month end and year end processes and reporting, ensuring a smooth process in line with agreed timetables.
• Undertake all month end activities, including but not limited to identifying, preparing and posting journals, reviewing and identifying potential missing accruals and prepayments, pay models, sense checking forecasts and assisting stakeholders with explanation of variances.
• Ensure the integrity of transactions on financial systems, ensuring good controls and checks are in place to maintain accuracy.
• As required analyse financial and non-financial data, to determine trends, correlations and other statistical information which impact business decisions. Ensure in line with the MCA's Business Plan.
• Support Finance Business Partners in providing explanations for significant changes in budget, forecast and actuals; provide updates on issues, risks and opportunities to senior managers.
• Produce high-quality monthly finance reports and support Finance Business Partners in preparing insightful management information for senior managers.
• To gain an in-depth working knowledge of the MCA and build strong relationships with stakeholders across the Agency, including non-finance staff and budget holders.
