Job summary

Maritime and Coastguard Agency is seeking a Deputy Management Accountant to lead month-end and year-end processes within the Management Accounting team. You will work with Finance Business Partners to ensure accurate financial reporting and timely deliverables, supporting IT and estates finance activities as needed.

The role offers scope for flexible working and the chance to contribute to MCA's substantial £500m budget through robust controls and insightful management information.

Qualifications

• Experience managing month-end and year-end processes in a finance function.
• Experience of finance in IT or estates environment.
• Knowledge of internal controls and financial reporting.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for month end and year end processes and reporting, ensuring a smooth process in line with agreed timetables.
• Undertake all month end activities, including posting journals, reviewing accruals and prepayments, pay models and variance explanations.
• Ensure the integrity of transactions on financial systems with strong controls.
• Analyze financial and non-financial data to identify trends and inform business decisions.
• Support Finance Business Partners with explanations for changes in budget, forecast and actuals.
• Produce high-quality monthly finance reports and management information for senior managers.
• Build relationships with stakeholders across the Agency, including non-finance staff.

Linking in with the Finance Business Partners, to support them with their responsibilities. Your responsibilities will include, but aren't limited to:

• Responsible for month end and year end processes and reporting, ensuring a smooth process in line with agreed timetables.
• Undertake all month end activities, including but not limited to identifying, preparing and posting journals, reviewing and identifying potential missing accruals and prepayments, pay models, sense checking forecasts and assisting stakeholders with explanation of variances.
• Ensure the integrity of transactions on financial systems, ensuring good controls and checks are in place to maintain accuracy.
• As required analyse financial and non-financial data, to determine trends, correlations and other statistical information which impact business decisions. Ensure in line with the MCA's Business Plan.
• Support Finance Business Partners in providing explanations for significant changes in budget, forecast and actuals; provide updates on issues, risks and opportunities to senior managers.
• Produce high-quality monthly finance reports and support Finance Business Partners in preparing insightful management information for senior managers.
• To gain an in-depth working knowledge of the MCA and build strong relationships with stakeholders across the Agency, including non-finance staff and budget holders.
