Job summary

Reed is seeking a Finance Manager/Company Accountant for a permanent, office-based role in Clacton-on-Sea. Reporting to the CFO, you will own core accounting and reporting activities within a growing business.

This hands-on position covers monthly management accounts, month-end close, audits, controls, and financial reporting. You will work with the senior leadership team to drive improvements and accurate information across the finance function.

Qualifications

• Minimum five years' accounting experience in a commercial environment.
• Part-qualified or fully qualified with ACA/ACCA/CIMA, or QBE.
• Strong experience preparing monthly management accounts.
• Thorough understanding of month-end and year-end processes.
• Experience supporting external audits and liaising with auditors.
• Excellent organisational skills with high accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills across all levels.
• Proactive and capable of managing multiple priorities.
• Continuous improvement mindset to add value beyond routine reporting.

An established and growing business is seeking an experienced Finance Manager/Company Accountant to join its finance team. Reporting directly to the CFO, this is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded finance professional to take ownership of core accounting and reporting activities while contributing to the continued development and improvement of the finance function.

This is a broad and varied position, ideally suited to someone who enjoys a hands-on role, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is confident managing both technical financial reporting and day-to-day finance operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare monthly management accounts and deliver accurate financial reporting packs.
• Manage the month-end close process, including accruals, prepayments, journals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
• Maintain and monitor the fixed asset register.
• Support year-end reporting activities and the preparation of statutory accounts.
• Coordinate external audits and act as the primary point of contact for auditors.
• Review, enhance, and implement financial controls, processes, and reporting procedures.
• Oversee daily finance operations and provide support to the wider finance team.
• Ensure all reporting deadlines are achieved, delivering accurate and timely financial information.
• Provide financial analysis, insight, and support to senior leadership and key stakeholders.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives across the finance function.

To be successful in this role, you will possess:

• A minimum of five years' accounting experience within a commercial or industry-based environment.
• Part-qualified, fully qualified (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA), or Qualified by Experience (QBE).
• Strong experience preparing monthly management accounts.
• A thorough understanding of month-end and year-end accounting processes.
• Experience supporting external audits and liaising effectively with auditors.
• Excellent organisational skills with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the business.
