Job summary

Tailored Search Recruitment is partnering with a growing SME to recruit a newly created Finance Manager position. You’ll own the day-to-day finance function, driving monthly accounts, budgeting, cash flow and MI, while partnering with the leadership team on commercial decisions.

You’ll lead a small finance team, develop processes and controls, and support wider commercial projects as the business grows. A portfolio FD will mentor and support progression toward FC/FD level.

Qualifications

Tailored Search are working exclusively with a growing, owner-managed SME to recruit a newly created Finance Manager position.

It’s a really exciting time to join the business. They’re ambitious, growing both organically and through acquisition, and are now looking to strengthen their internal finance capability with someone who can take real ownership of the function and grow alongside the business.

This won’t just be a month-end and reporting role. You’ll be hands-on across finance, but also work closely with the senior leadership team, getting involved in business partnering, commercial decision-making and a variety of projects as the company continues to develop.

The role

You’ll take ownership of the day-to-day finance function, with responsibility across areas including:

• Monthly management accounts, reporting and variance analysis
• Budgeting, forecasting and cash-flow management
• Improving MI and providing greater commercial insight to the leadership team
• Working closely with operational stakeholders and acting as a genuine finance partner
• Leading and developing a small finance team
• Reviewing and improving financial controls, processes and systems
• Supporting working capital and credit control
• Helping integrate and develop the finance function as the business grows
• Supporting wider commercial, operational and acquisition-related projects

The role will work closely with an experienced portfolio FD, who will provide mentoring and support as the finance function develops.

That relationship is a big part of the opportunity. He’s highly experienced, down to earth and will act as a genuine mentor to the person coming in, gradually handing over more responsibility as they develop.

Longer term, there is a clear pathway for this person to progress through Financial Controller level and ultimately into the No.1 finance/FD role as the current portfolio FD transitions away.

What we’re looking for

Ideally, you’ll be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with a strong grounding in an SME or similarly hands-on environment.

You’ll also need to be:

• Commercial and comfortable partnering with non-finance stakeholders
• Happy operating in a hands-on, entrepreneurial SME environment
• Confident improving processes rather than simply maintaining what already exists
• Comfortable getting into the detail when needed
• Ambitious and keen to develop into a broader leadership role
• Pragmatic, personable and able to operate closely with an owner/MD
