Overview
Employing over 200 staff and hundreds of casual workers, the majority of which are students, ACS is responsible for providing a wide range of essential services and facilities to staff, students and visitors across the University. With an annual turnover of £37 million, these include; accommodation and welfare support, catering and hospitality, conferences and events.
The Department is responsible for providing accommodation and related services and support for up to 6,000 students in its residences. It runs a number of high quality bars and food outlets, delivers catering throughout the University and provides venues and catering for conferences and special events such as weddings and graduations.
ACS recognises the importance of colleagues in delivering its vision to ‘exceed students’ and customers’ expectations, which is also reflected in our values and behaviours. Training and Quality are at the heart of the Department ethos. The Department has a strong focus on customer service, achieving both Investors in Students and Hospitality Assured Premier in 2022, and upgraded to Hospitality Assured Premier in 2023.
Following a £160 million investment, achieved in collaboration with a partner organisation, the University’s student residences at Endcliffe and Ranmoor are amongst the best in the country and provide modern accommodation and social facilities for students, as well as conference and event spaces.
The University is also continuing to invest in its facilities on campus. Newly completed developments, such as The Wave have given ACS the opportunity to develop both its commercial operations and enhance the customer experience by responding to changing customer demands.
In addition to the work of ACS, a wholly owned University subsidiary company, UNICUS (Sheffield) Ltd, was established in 2012 to develop a commercial proposition to enhance the hospitality offer to the University.
