Job summary

Michael Page in Medway is seeking a Permanent Finance Manager to support the Financial Controller and to lead the Finance Team as the business grows. The role focuses on monthly management accounts, budgeting, and robust financial reporting to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.

You will work four days in the office and one day from home, collaborating with department heads, delivering KPI reports, and driving cost-saving initiatives while ensuring compliance with accounting standards.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of financial reporting and month-end activities.

• Ability to review financial data, identify discrepancies and resolve issues.
• Experience monitoring budgets and expenditure.

Responsibilities

• Assist with day-to-day operations of the Finance Team.
• Prepare and review monthly management accounts (P&L, Balance Sheet).
• Complete month-end processes with accruals, prepayments, depreciation and adjustments.
• Ensure accuracy of reporting with control account reconciliation and journal entries.
• Provide commentary on performance to support strategic decisions.
• Assist with annual budgets and re-forecasts with other department heads.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings with directors.
• Support year-end audit and finance elements of audits.
• Liaise with central credit control to monitor debtors and escalate as needed.
• Develop team skills and provide training where appropriate.

Job description

You will report to the Financial Controller responsible for overseeing the daily accounting processes to maintain the ledgers. The position is focused on developing the Finance team and implementing systems to meet the evolving needs of the business as it grows, ensuring key targets and management deadlines are met in a dynamic working environment

The organisation operates in the Business Services industry in the Medway towns area.

Description

• This role will involve assisting with the day-to-day operations of the Finance Team and ensuring that the Finance Department runs smoothly.
• Prepare and review monthly management accounts to include departmental profit and loss statements and balance sheet.
• Review and completion of month end processes, in line with management timetable, including monthly accruals, prepayments, depreciation and all other month end adjustments as required.
• Ensure accuracy of financial reporting with review and reconciliation of all control accounts, including actioning necessary journal entries and nominal analysis.
• Provide high level supporting commentary on the financial performance, highlighting variance to budget and forecasts and support strategic decision making.
• Preparation of annual budgets and any re-forecasting as required. This will include working alongside other department heads to gather required information.
• Work with departmental managers and Directors to ensure accuracy of reporting and identify opportunities for cost savings.
• Support and provide training to members of the team to ensure they progress with their development.
• Analyse revenue streams and project works to provide financial commentary and identify opportunities for margin enhancements.
• Ensure knowledge is up to date on financial regulations and accounting standards.
• Support the year-end financial audit and the financial elements of the audit.
• Develop strong relationships with key stakeholders across the business to ensure that financial considerations are integrated into Operational strategies.
• Provide assistance, and work alongside, the central credit control department to monitor accounts and liaise with customers to ensure monies are received within agreed terms. Adhere to escalation procedures where necessary.
• Assist with monitoring of outstanding customer purchase orders, escalating where required.
• Completion of ad-hoc project work and financial analysis on performance, including production of monthly KPI report.

Profile

• Good knowledge of Excel, SAP (not essential), Microsoft packages and Outlook
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting and month-end activities.
• Confidence reviewing financial data, identifying discrepancies and resolving issues.
• Experience monitoring budgets and expenditure.
• CIMA, ACCA, ACA Qualified / Finalist

Job Offer

• Permanent Finance Manager position based in Medway
• Salary of £50,000 to £55,000, dependent on the level of experience with good benefits package
